Corning Glass Museum

Corning glass Museum is a perfect destination for a day trip during the harsh winter season. We purchased the tickets for the Corning Museum of Glass alone (You have options to go for a combo ticket for Rockwell museum as well).   There are such interesting displays and much to cover at the Corning Museum alone for a whole day and not to mention about the shopping floor downstairs that caters to your shopping spree.
They provide a map of the floor plan at the Tickets counter or you could print one at home ahead here –

We rushed to the innovation  Center to view the  Optical Fiber demo in progress to be followed by Flame working demo in few minutes .The demos are not very frequent but has been scheduled at least once in the morning and one in the afternoon as well. The demos, an interesting periodic table, quiz program played on mini media were informative. Take a city view in all directions through the periscope there.

The highlights were a huge array of paper weights, the tainted glass displays and  The chess in contemporary glass gallery, the pink glass chandelier and the couple of Huge chandeliers on display at the Glass collection gallery along with glass artifacts from different parts of the World like Ancient Egypt, Rome , mid-east and Asia.

Photography for personal use is allowed with NO flash  in most of the galleries except where noted and tripods cannot be used. The cafeteria downstairs has decent selections of vegetarian options  as well. They provide “Make your Own glass” programs for which you could purchase tickets in advance (highly recommended due to its popularity). But, the class lasts 40 minutes and  your creative piece needs to be cooled overnight and it can be picked up the next day or shipped for a shipping rate of $18 within USA  and to Canada for a flat rate of $30!

I should say that I was little disappointed with the lesser collection they had for glass earrings when compared to what they had last year during my first year. However, we were still able to bag some nice deals like chopping boards, colorful bowls, few glass earrings for $5 each and they had a great sale on the necklace sets at $6 each. Check out the car cart full of glass blooms for sale at the back entrance from the parking lot.  Visit their website for  hours, directions, tickets and much more! -  http://www.cmog.org/
