Mother's day Picnic at Shikellamy State Park

May 11th is Mother’s day for the year of 2014. I was all excited to spend the whole Sunday with my 20 month old Krishna. We headed to the Shikellamy state park at Selinsgrove, PA. driving on US 11 South. One part is a scenic view that will require you to drive along US 11 south by taking a right turn at the signal light and drive on the bridge. Stay in the right lane to turn right immediately as you get down the bridge through the narrow hilly alley. A few minutes’ drive further, you will see the scenic view entrance to your right that winds its way to the top. This area did not yet have many blooms/leaves or grass that looked unusual to me for this part of the year. There was not a single soul to be seen and we headed back down to the state park.

To reach the state park head straight at the signal light and you will cross a tiny bridge and will find the entrance to the park to your right. The park was blooming and was not heavily crowded. We chose a great shady sport under the trees near to the kids play area. We spread our picnic blanket, laid down and watched the tall trees touching the sky, and tiny birds perched and chirping on the tree tops. Chasing the geese, peek-a-boo with the squirrels were fun for Krishna. The wild yellow and violet colored flowers spread all through the park’s grass. There were people riding boats/ferries on the river. The swings facing the river for a scenic view, barbecues along the river edge are some great amenities. Krishna enjoyed the slide and swings in play area. People walking their dogs, designated walk routes along the park, kids pedaling their bicycles marked a warm sunny day.

A great place to spend a day with a kid and to make a memorable mother’s day picnic!
